Stormie served in the US Army and through her experience instructing and training others along with her own personal experience with Post-Traumatic Disorder (PTSD) and Military Sexual Assault (MSA), she is in a unique position to teach others how to navigate hostile environments, make decisions under extreme pressure, along with identifying stress triggers and managing stress for a healthier and more fulfilling life by managing PTSD.
As a Transportation Management Coordinator, Stormie learned to effectively manage multitasking while under sever time constraints, constantly changing itineraries and last minute travel arrangements to anywhere in the world. Upon leaving the Army she used the skills learned as a soldier and applied them as a Texas Peace Officer where she worked in undercover narcotics, domestic violence and sex crimes. Stormie was a recognized as an exemplary peace officer before resigning to obtain her dream of a college degree. Stormie enrolled at Sam Houston State University where she made the Dean's list and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in psychology. Upon graduation, she served as a Deputy clerk for the Texas 1st Court of Appeals until transcending into teaching high school criminal justice.
Stormie has PTSD due to MSA and in 2012 sought out treatment programs and discovered many therapeutic methods and other modalities to identify stressor's and triggers and learn how to manage stress to live a fuller, more peaceful and healthier way of life. Along her quest for healing, Stormie has used her own pain and tragedy to write her book Silence No More in the hopes of helping other PTSD and MSA victims find their own hope and healing. When God interceded and saved Stormie, she knew it was not her time, that there a purpose for her life that had not been fulfilled. She was led to write her story and speak out about the travesty MSA and PTSD has caused in so many lives. Stormie feels a calling to serve, help and advise however she can, in particular through speaking and sharing experiences and often life-saving knowledge and resources.
For the past two years, Stormie has served as a Stress Management Coach via social media forums and an Advocate for active duty military and veterans with PTSD and MSA. With the participants, she speaks about therapy options, PTSD and MSA and teaches them how to interact within a circle of comfort (to build trust and mutual understanding) and she assists the participants with identifying stressor's and triggers. She also serves as a spokesperson for Silenced No More as an advocate and is responsible for speaking at engagements related to PTSD, MSA and veteran’s issues. She leads events that brings awareness to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Military Sexual Assault by sharing her story and experiences as well as tips and techniques to recognize triggers and manage stress in relation to PTSD.
This year, Stormie spoke before a Federal Congressional subcommittee on the systems for handling of military sexual assault cases in the military. She has worked in partnership with Camp Hope on a retreat honoring women who have served. Stormie is the Mental Health Program Manager and advocate for the The Warford Foundation Inc., an advocate with Service Women's Action Network, a member of VFW Post 4513 Auxiliary and a member of the color guard. She was crowned by Global Nations Pageant as Mrs. Veteran Arkansas 2014 and will compete for the National title in 2015. Stormie is a resident of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, with her husband, the mother of three children, a stepson, and the grandmother of three beautiful grandchildren. She is active both in church and her community. Stormie is a member of National Speakers Association, Women Speakers Association, Veteran's Mentor Network, Public Speaking Network, and the Writers' Guild of Arkansas.
